Purpose of the GWG Presidents Cup:
The aim of the GWG presidents cup is to build stronger relationships between the leadership and key roles at the clubs in West Gippsland. In recent years we have been working more closely together, and we wish to strengthen and grow relationships, especially at a board or strategic level.
Whilst clubs do, to some extent, compete with neighboring clubs for members, it is in the best interests all clubs to work together to grow the game of golf. After all a larger golfing community will result in benefits to all clubs.
There is much that clubs can learn from what others have tried, whether it was successful or not. All clubs are run by a group of volunteers and there are challenges to engage people to step up and contribute in some way at their club. When clubs meet regularly as Captains, Board members, Superintendents or Junior Coordinators, etc, there is a lot to be gained and importantly some support and learnings available for all.
In addition, who doesn’t benefit from some healthy competition? The concept of the Presidents Cup is firstly to establish some informal relationships between clubs, at all levels, starting primarily with the presidents. It is hoped that by playing together 3 times per year these relationships will be maintained. We hope the structure of this competition will continue the connections between clubs well into the future despite the inevitable changes in personnel.
